Last lesson of the interface module, and the one that ties it all together: the tools that tell you what has changed in the account (and who changed it), the ones that warn you without you logging in, and a concrete weekly routine built from what you learned across seven modules. Whoever follows it manages; whoever does not, reacts.
The change history
Campaigns → Change history (or from the chart: the history icon). It lists every modification to the account: who (a user, or "Google Ads" if it was an automation), when, what (budget, bid, status, keywords, ads...) and from which value to which value. You can filter it by campaign, change type and user, and overlay it on the performance chart.
What it is for:
- Explaining a performance change: what was touched the week the CPA went up? The history tells you in a minute.
- Spotting changes you did not make: recommendations applied automatically, rules, another user, an agency.
- Undoing: many changes have a revert button.
It is also the substitute for the change log from Module 5 for whatever happens inside Google Ads — you still need your own for the why.
Notifications and alerts
- The notification bell (top): ad disapprovals, billing problems, conversions not recording, policies. Read it every time you log in.
- Email notifications (Admin → Notifications): switch on the ones for billing problems, disapproved ads and conversion alerts. Those are the ones that cannot wait.
- Automated rules that warn you (Tools → Rules): instead of the rule changing bids (Module 5, mistake 8), have it send you an email when daily spend goes above X, a campaign spends without converting or the CPA spikes. Warning, yes; acting, no.
Recommendations: read, don't accept
The Recommendations tab and its "optimisation score" deserve a weekly visit just to read. Sort each one into a bucket:
| Type | Examples | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Useful | Disapproved ads, keywords conflicting with negatives, missing assets | Review and apply |
| Doubtful | Raise budgets, switch to broad match, turn on expansions | Read; almost always dismiss |
| Noise | "Use Performance Max", "add these 40 keywords" | Dismiss |
And check that "apply automatically" is switched off in every category: it is the most common way for an account to change without anyone deciding it.
The weekly routine (30 minutes)
It pulls the whole Basic level into a list that fits in half an hour:
- Notifications and change history (3 min): any disapprovals? billing? did something change that I did not decide?
- Campaigns, last 7 days vs the previous ones (5 min): spend against plan, CPA/ROAS against target, campaigns that are limited by budget and profitable. Remember the delay: trends, not verdicts.
- Conversions (2 min): statuses in Goals → Conversions; any at zero? any duplicated?
- Search terms (10 min): the routine from Module 3 — negatives by intent, rescue what converts, note down roots.
- Ads (5 min): "Low" assets with volume in important ad groups; one or two replacements at most (Module 4).
- Recommendations (3 min): read, sort, dismiss.
- Change log (2 min): note what you touched today and review the result of what you touched three weeks ago.
Monthly, add: an end-to-end measurement test (Module 6), auction insights, a review of assets and campaign settings (Module 2), and the locations report if you run Display or PMax.
💡 Ninja trick: this routine is the script of the Ninja Scripts Suite. Every step has a script that does it overnight and leaves the result in a sheet: Guardian (steps 1-2), the Agent (step 3 and watching everything else), the Search Query Optimizer and Negative Keywords (step 4), the RSA Optimizer (step 5), the QS Analyzer and Ninja Shield (the monthly work). The weekly half hour turns into reading a sheet and approving checkboxes — and the time you save goes into what no script does: thinking about the business.
What you should remember
- The change history explains almost any performance swing and exposes changes you did not make.
- Alerts: the bell, emails for billing/disapprovals/conversions, and rules that warn you.
- Recommendations: read and sort; "apply automatically" off.
- A 30-minute weekly routine with seven steps; the monthly work, separately.
End of Module 7. The last module of the Basic level: beginner mistakes, with real anonymised examples from Suite accounts.
